Fini Roti: How to make Fini Roti?

Fini roti is a traditional Nepali flatbread that is accepted to have been created in the Newar community which is a racial group born in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. They are known for their rich culture and cuisine, and fine roti is one of their most popular dishes and is a crispy bread specially made during the festival of Tihar. Fini roti is usually served with curries, dal bhat, or other Nepali dishes. Fini roti is enjoyed by people all over Nepal which is a popular snack food and is also served in restaurants and hotels. Fini roti is a delectable and adaptable dish that can be appreciated on its own or with other foods.

There are many varieties of roti obtainable in our country Nepal and Fini Roti is one of them also known as Newari Fini Roti which is made from all-purpose flour and rice flour. It is a deep-fried flatbread that is comprehended for its thin, crispy crust and soft, fluffy interior. Fini Roti is often filled with curries, dal bhat, or other Nepali dishes which are suggested to the goddess Laxmi during the Tihar festival. It is also made for other special events like weddings. It is made of four ingredients that are light and taste delicious hence has become very popular in Nepal.

  Etymology and Beginning of Fini Roti  

The word “fini” arrives from the Newari language and means “thin” or “delicate.” The word “roti” in the Hindi language means “bread” therefore combining both words forms thin roti which is known as Fini Roti.

The actual basis of fini roti is unknown, but it is accepted to have been conceived in the Newar community in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal.

The Newar is a racial group born in Nepal who are known for their rich culture and cuisine. Fini roti is one of the most popular dishes in the Newar community as well all over Nepal.

It is accepted that fini roti was first created during the festival of Tihar, which is a main Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal.

Fini roti is proposed to the goddess Laxmi, who is the goddess of wealth and prosperity. It is also made on other special occurrences, such as weddings and festivals.

 


 

  Preparation and ingredients  

Some ingredients and quantities as listed below.

all-purpose flour 2 cups
rice flour 1/4 cup
ghee 4 tbsp
Water as needed
Salt as taste
powder sugar 1/4 cup
Oil as needed

 


 

  How to make Fini Roti?  

 add flour, 2 tbsp ghee

✓ At first  you should take a bowl and add flour, 2 tbsp ghee, and salt then combine it nicely.

✓ Now, you should add delimited water at a time by kneading well to make a soft dough when it is ready just cover it and put it aside to relax for 515 mins or until it becomes fluffy and flexible.

You should take another bowl and count rice flour and 2 tbsp ghee then integrate it well to make a paste which is known as sat (to create the layers in the Fini later).

After the dough has rested divide it into 12 equal pieces, and roll per piece of dough into a thin circle with a rolling pin.

✓ Then,  flatten a thin circle out in a long rectangular shape about 6 inches in diameter.

You must apply sat evenly over the flattened buck which helps to make numerous layers in Fini.

✓ Now, Heat the vegetable oil like olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.

When it is hot you should fry Fini Roti for a small 2-3 mins on medium to low heat until it becomes crisp, and make sure that the color of the Roti doesn’t turn brown.

You can yank the Fini Roti from the hot oil and drain out the oil of the Fini Roti on a piece of paper to soak excess oil.

If you like sweet Fini-roti then you can spray powdered sugar on both sides of the Fini while it is still warm.

✓ You can complete this recipe in about five hours, you will finish by serving within 6 hours.

Normally, you can serve it hot, warm, or cold which can be stored it for a few days after it cools down.

You can serve this dish as a snack as well as with curries, dal bhat, or other Nepali dishes.

You can also consume it with tea for breakfast.

 


 

  Utensil use during making Fini Roti  

Some useful utensils for making Fini Roti:

  1. Deep Frying Pan  

A deep frying pan is a kitchen utensil that is used for deep frying which is a cooking method in which food is dipped in hot oil. Deep frying cooks food fast and evenly which can give food a crispy crust.

 

  2. Slotted spoon  

A slotted spoon is utilized to extract food from a liquid without the liquid and the spaces in the spoon allow the liquid to drain away during the food stays on top.

 

  3. Rolling board  

Rolling boards are a board which is used to prevent dough and they also make it easier to roll out dough to a consistent thickness.

 

  4. Rolling pin  

A rolling pin is a food preparation utensil that is used to flatten dough evenly and smoothly and is used for rolling out the dough for pastries, like tarts and cookies.

 

  5. Knife  

A knife is a tool or weapon with a cutting edge or blade used to cut food into shorter pieces.

 

  6. Bowl  

The bowl shape is important for a digit of reasons which is a round shape that makes it easy to scoop food out of the bowl, and the wide opening makes it easy to get your hand in there.

 


 

  Recipe Notes  

You can mix 1/2 cup of yogurt into the dough to make it soft.

You can store Fini Roti in an airtight receptacle for a few days after cooling.

✓ You can easily create ghee from unsalted butter.

you can use only 2 tbs ghee or replace it with a more beneficial oil, like olive oil.

You can create rice flour from rice by soaking the needed quantity for the whole night and drying it for a while in the morning and then grinding it.

You can purify rice flour with the service of a sieve fine rice flour.

You can sprinkle cardamom powder on each side of the Fini while it is warm for a lovable flavour.
